vRA 7.4 OVA Blueprint Network Questions

I'm attempting to create and deploy the vRO 7.4 appliance as a vRA blueprint.

Question 1: Are we able to leverage vRA network profiles to populate the OVA network settings?

Question 2: When manually specifiying the network properties in the blueprint, they are not being set at deployment time. Is there something specific we need to do here? I noticed the network properties are the only ones not being set (ie hostname and root password are being set).

Also, if there's better documentation than what's available here. Please let me know.

https://docs.vmware.com/en/vRealize-Automation/7.4/com.vmware.vra.prepare.use.doc/GUID-810D4F6B-7D4F-4399-9AB4-91A9CA1A50A7.html#GUID-810D4F6B-7D4F-4399-9AB4-91A9CA1A50A7

I did notice the properties automatically defined as part of configuring the OVA blueprint are different from

Cloud Client exception with "vra deployment list --requestId" when the total number of requests is above 5000

Hi,

I'm using vra 7.3 and cloud client 4.4.

A couple of days ago I started getting this weird error message all of a sudden in my automation pipe I have using Cloud Client.

Flow:
1. I do a successful request of a blueprint/deployment through cloud client.

2. I get the requestId back from the successful request I made. I also verified the requestId in the GUI under Requests.

3. I then use

CloudClient>vra deployment list --requestId <the id I got from above here>

4. But I then got

com.vmware.cloudclient.exception.CloudClientException: Failed to convert '<id from above>' to type Request for option 'requestId'
Error: Unable to find a Request by the name or id '<id from above>'.

5. The above message is the same as if I wrote a requestId that does not exist, but it did.

---

I started to dig deeper...

1. This Business Group has 5000+ requests (5197 something), I could verify this in the GUI

2. I then used the same command but instead of writing the requestId I pressed the Tab key, twice.

   CloudClient>vra deployment list --requestId

   Display all 5000 possibilites? (y or n)

3. Wait a minute... I have more than 5000 requests.

4. I compared and tested the following

   CloudClient>vra request list --pagesize 5000
   CloudClient>vra request list --pagesize 5200

But still only saw up to 5000 requests.

5. I tested to set default pagesize in cloudclient.config above 5000, to like 5200 but then I had to use --page 2 to see the request entries above 5000.

vra request list --page 1 (showed 5000 entrys)
vra request list --page 2 (showed 197 more)

---

So my conclusion is that:

1. Cloud Client "vra request list" can only show 5000 entries even when using --pagesize larger than 5000

CloudClient>vra request list --pagesize 5200 <-- only shows 5000 entries

2. I can see beyond 5000 if I use --page (even if I use default pagesize of 25 and then use like --page 206 or something)

CloudClient>vra request list --page X

3. The problem is that

CloudClient>vra deployment list --requestId <requestId here>

Can only see 5000 request entries, not more, the only respons is the "com.vmware.cloudclient.exception.CloudClientException..." if I enter entries that is above 5000.

If I choose a request entry that is above 5000 I get the error message, same as if the requestId does not exist.

If I choose a request entry that is 5000 or below I get a response as usual and its working as it should.

---

Can anyone confirm this?
And how can I fix this?

1. How can I remove/delete old requests for a Business Group? Can I clear it some how? There is a "delete" button in the GUI but that only works for "Unsubmitted" requests.
Is the only option to rebuild the Business Group or hack the database?
2. Is there some setting in Cloud Client that can be modified so vra deployment list --requestId can see beyond 5000 requests?
3. Any other ideas? or SR next :/

Use fallback identity provider

Im attempting to integrate our enterprise SSO into vRA. I set everything up and changed the default access policy to use my custom identity provider first with password as a fallback. When i hit the authentication page i get returned a bad request and would like to revert to using the default password provider. I cant for the life of me figure out how to revert to using the fallback method.

Disable the use of ServiceNow "Login Rules" as an authentication method for vRA plugin

$

We are seeing delays of 15 seconds for the ServiceNow homepage to load when someone is "vra_user" due to the vra plugin always pushing us to authenticate with vRA.

The plugin is pushing us to authenticate with vRA regardless if we are accessing a vRA resouce (authentication happens only once and at the beginning of a new ServiceNow session).  As this happens almost always when people are trying to access the standard ServiceNow homepage.... people are incorrectly assuming that ServiceNow is running slow.

We have troubleshooted this issue due to the use of "Login Rules" by the plugin within the ServiceNow system. Is there any way to prevent the authentication until someone is trying to access the vRA catalog? More importantly, ServiceNow has deprecated the use of "Login Rules" for some time (please see the links below from archive.org , the new documentation site for ServiceNow no longer has this info readily available).

Infrastructure > Recent Events is empty [vRA 7.3]

After rebooting a standalone vRA 7.3 appliance using the VAMI interface I no longer see entries in "Recent Events". Otherwise everything seems normal and everything under "vRA Settings" in the VAMI interface looks OK and the only service that shows not registered is "release-management: com.vmware.csp.component.devops.release.management".

How do I fix this?

Hi,

I would like to change the IP under the VRA Home in the Web Client. somehow an old IP is represented (look at the picture below)

Does anyone knows how that can be done?

BTW, the old VM with the represented IP is no longer available.

Daniel.

Hi all,

I'm trying to run some PowerShell script in VM guest that is a domain member server.

I'm using the "Run script in Guest" workflow and it works really fine with local admin credentials.

the issue is that I have Microsoft LAPS on all my servers, which means the password changed every X interval.

is there any option to use this workflow with domain credentials?

Hi,

I have a xaas blueprint which I want to have an approval before the execution.

After the user fulfills the request I want to take the information from the request and do some manipulation.

At the end of the manipulation the result will be show for the approval.

Which subscriptions should I choose?

Thanks!

Hi all,

I migrated my lab environment from 7.3 to 7.4 (what was really challenging!). Finally it´s running. I enabled the "resume" as an action in the entitlement and created a couple of failed deployments. But I´m unable to see the failed deployments in the "items" view and cannot do the "resume".

Any idea?

VRA 7.1 - API Calls to create Fabric Groups

Are there any API calls available in VRA 7.1 to Create Fabric Groups / Enterprise Admin Group, assign Fabric Administrator Role and Compute Resources?

I found some vRO Workflows to create Fabric Groups. But not one to Assign Fabric Admin Role or add Compute resources to it.

Hi all,

I can create a EnterpriseAdminGroup and add resources....no problem...however I have trouble adding the admin users.

To create the FG see: (or attached workflow)

Re: VRA 7.1 - API Calls to create Fabric Groups

BUT the EnterpriseAdminGroup has no link or property that has the users in it. I already took the Entity apart and there isnt much just:

  • link
    • Hosts : [VCACEntity]
  • Properties
    • EnterpriseAdminID : [string] cdc7d9d4-37f2-4be9-8fa3-5ff60a40abde

    • AdminName : [sting] myCluster

    • AdminDescription : [string]

Anyone?
