Idesigning for a greenfield vCAC deployment. I will be configuring a Management and Resource vCenter.
I would like to make my clusters as wide a possible and use vSphere Share mechanisms to control instead of ResourcePools. The thinking being since all Resource VMs will be deployed with a tool, have the tool set the Shares during deployment based on Build Profile or Blueprint. For example Gold Tier VM: 1000 Mem, 1000 CPU, and 1000 Disk Shares, Silver 500, and Bronze 250. That way all VMs will be in the default RP and the shares should be honored as expected if contention.
Can Shares be modified per VM with Custom Properties? If not, I am assuming this can be done via vCO? If so, how?
Also, is this a good way to deal with shared resources between tiers?
Thanks,
