Hi All,

Currently Working on the Deployment of VRA within my Companies vSphere environment,

Active Directory machine OU Grouping is working and Machine prefixes is also working, What i am trying to figure out is every time I do a boot-up a machine within VRA it's taken the DNS of the Golden Image; I would like to know how do i get that Machine Name prefixe name as the DNS Name of the machine? also how do i join a Windows Domain for that Machine. using custom propties within the blueprint?

Thanks

Updating Component Profiles Using vRO

It seems when adding features to vRA, accompanying workflows to manage those features in vRO are slow to come by. The new component profiles have been around for a few releases, but I still cannot find anyway to update them programmaticlly from vRO. We want to use the image profiles to allow for more dynamic blueprints. The issue is we have over 100 templates to use and manually adding them to the GUI image profile value sets is very tedious.

The feature was added in vRA:

But there is no inventory item in vRO that reflects them:

When can we expect to have workflows or actions in vRO that match this new feature? It would really help us out to be able to create these entries using a for loop in vRO and then update them programmatically using vRO over time, as we update the templates.

Known issues to consider *before* upgrading to vRA 7.4

Folks-

as vRA 7.4 has been out for more than a month now, few trending issues have surfaced which are of importance to consider when planning your upgrades. Below the current list.
As a general rule, I would suggest to:
- keep an eye on the "known issues" section in release notes which is updated regularly -> vRealize Automation 7.4 Release Notes
- download and follow theupgrade guide - there are changes and refinements to the process as well as many troubleshooting  steps added

- Pre-upgrade:

  • When upgrading vRealize Automation appliances, you might experience failures related to duplicates in the database for the vRealize Orchestrator service.
    This is especially valid if the "Vmware Horizon View" plugin for vRO is present
    Resolution: See knowledge base article 54982.

- Post upgrade:

  • After upgrade, getting "HTTP Status 502 – Bad Gateway” in the UI when accessing Containers tab shows error “
    Resolution: Contact vmware support. (KB being drafted)

Machine CloneVM : Requested value 'debian8_64Guest' was not found.

Hi,

We introduced Debian Linux in our vRA (7.3) / vSphere (6.0 Update 3) Environment recently. I prepared a template, created the corresponding blueprints. However, when I try to deploy a Debian-based VM I get the following error message in the logs:

Machine : CloneVM : Requested value 'debian8_64Guest' was not found.

I grabbed the necessary Guest OS Identifier from here: https://www.vmware.com/support/orchestrator/doc/vro-vsphere60-api/html/VcVirtualMachineGuestOsIdentifier.html

Any advice?

Thanks in advance.

vRealize appliance connectivity issue with my server Iaas

Hello everyone,

I'm a junior cloud architect and I'm deploying vRealize Automation for a Proof of Concept. I already deploy the appliance on my vCenter but during the configuration with the wizzard from Prerequisite checker step, it shows: .

And when i click run button for check the prerequisites in the Iaas server, it never show the list of prerequisites for the Iaas server.

It stucks on "Waiting for host to trigger prerequisite check".

If i can't know if my Iaas server meet all the requirements, i can't take the risk to pursue the installation, it will fail.

Thank's for the interrest.

Update Lease date for a deployed VM from VRO

I am trying to update the VRA Lease data (Expires) from the VcAC using VRO.  I am able to fetch the virtual machine entity and list all attributes, and I am using "add update from virtual machine entity" to update the Expires , workflow completes successfully but the value is not updated.

Can some one help me on how to update the Lease for a deployed VM using VRO

Sysprep Machine going into initial setup phase

Currently on the Testing phase of the deployment of VRA,

I have notice that, once a Machine is built within VRA and using custom configuration specs on vCenter to join the machine to a Domain and run sysprep. once the user logs on they are getting the initial setup for local admin account even tho they have logged on with there AD user.

how can i get this to skip this process.

Thanks.

When will vRealize Automation be able to connect to Azure Government cloud?

$

I have been playing around with vRA since I upgraded to VMUG Advantage.  I worked through every step of the process from the networking and firewall rules to appliance settings and configurations in Azure.  When I connect vRA to Azure Gov, it connects with no problem, but I cannot enumerate resources to create catalog items.  Any idea when the functionality will be completed for this?  I can't convince management of this or any other "upgrades" to our VMware environment if I can't get this connection to work.

I am running vSphere and vCenter 6.5 and vRA version 7.4.

How to get an integer as default value for a Xaas item ?

$

Hi team,

I'm currently working with vRealize Automation 7.3.1 and vRealize Orchestrator 7.3.1 for some time and I didn't find how to get an integer as default value form a form item.

Let's review my current path.

In vRO, there is currently no "integer" :

no integer.PNG

Instead, there is the type "number" that is working as "integer" should : until there, no question.

When you want to introduce some dynamic in vRA, you may use actions.

Here the goal is to get a default value for the lease time regarding the environment where a vm deployment occurs : only 1 day on the DEV environment while 0 (unlimited) once in production.

I created a very simple action to do this that is enough to our demonstration : it returns "1" typed as "number".

action sending number.PNG

But when I try to bind it as the external value in the default value of my lease vRA item typed as integer, it fails, claiming that my action sends an "number" (that is true) while vRA expects an "integer" (that is correct regarding the type visible).

vra expecting integer.PNG

Let's note by side that vRA perfectly knows how to send its "integer" from a Xaas in the "number" input of a vRO workflow to conversion is definitely possible.

I'm open to suggestions, thanks for your help !

Hi All ,

Good Morning,

could someone from blue print development team check and validate the following scenerio which has been taken from lab HOL-1821-02-CMP.

its easy to create plain  vanila blueprint but when it come to creating blueprint for multitier application there are few options avaiable.

iam refeering to the example mentioned in above lab wherein we need to create blueprint for deployment of wordpress application using centos and software componenets which are

imported to vRAusing cloud client .below is the screen shot from lab.

and below is the screenshot of metadata.yamlthat desxcribes the dependencies among different components .

and as per above file following blueprint is deveoped which is also shown in lab .

s

could someone validate that above dependencies which are shown in final blueprint are as per metadata.yaml file ??? for example where in yaml file php service is dependent on apache service.??

and similarly wordpress db is dependent on mysqlas per metadata file but not shown in final blueprint .

Thnaks in advance.

How to delete orphan XaaS VMs in vRA 's inventory using vRO's plugin ?

$

Hi all,

I have an orphan VM in my XaaS inventory (vRA7.4).

The VM was build in XaaS with vRO (7.4), and a custom resource was created in my inventory, mapped to VC:VirtualMachine.

There was a problem in a Day 2 operation. The vsphere VM has been deleted, but the  inventory Item not.

My goal is to delete this element, without using database requests in vRA Appliance (vRealize Automation : Delete Orphaned Catalog Item vRA 6.x - vINCEPTION ).

I have tried to do that with vRO.

This is my strating code :

var vraItems =  vCACCAFEEntitiesFinder.getCatalogResources(vRaEndpoint);

for (var i = 0; i< vraItems.length; i++)
{
   if(vraItems[i].name.toLowerCase() == itemName.toLowerCase())
   {
       System.log("Found : " + vraItems[i].name);
        System.log("ID : " + vraItems[i].id);
        System.log("Status : " + vraItems[i].status.value());
     }
}

My element is found.

The status is VCACCAFEResourceStatus type.

I have seen the setStatus method on catalog resource object, but I need a VCACCAFEResourceStatus in parameter.

My goal is to replace ACTIVE by DELETED Status, like in sql solution.

I have tried to create a new VCACCAFEResourceStatus, but it failed.

     var xxx = new VCACCAFEResourceStatus();

     ReferenceError: "VCACCAFEResourceStatus" is not defined

I have tried to collecte actual status, and modify it, but I failed to give a new value.

Have someone a tip for me ?

- creating a VCACCAFEResourceStatus

- or parameter actual VCACCAFEResourceStatus

- or another solution

Thanks by advance

[vRA 7.4] - UnprovisionMachine step stuck.

Hi Guys,

we encounte an error during the " UnprovisionMachine" state.

When a user send a request to destroy the "Deployment", the Virtual Machine is deleted from Vsphere infrastructure but in vRA we can always see the Virtual machine in :

- Infrastructure > Managed Machines.

The status is : "UnprovisionMachine"

and also in :

- Items tab.

In a REQUEST tab the request still "IN PROGRESS".

The Virtual Machine existing yet in a vSphere Environment.

If we try to send a new request "Destroy or Force Destroy" an error occured : "Request initialization failed: Rejecting blueprint request [44b19f1c-58ad-4e98-8733-71ad15124de5]. There are other active requests on the corresponding deployment."

We have try to delete the Virtual Machine from Infrastructure > Managed Machines, same result.

We can also see this log under "Infrastructure > Monitoring > Log" :

Error delivering workitem response DisposeVM c7362b0e-b0bc-40d4-81da-a330b0229fa4 to workflow 158e2412-6ddc-4e13-afd4-0997abea0167, exception:

How to get List of VM's managed by vRA 7.2

$

Hello All,

   We have vRA 7.2 environment, during the issues couple of VM's has been restored from the snap shot based backup in the vcenter. later the VM's which are restored are not able to manage through the portal , cannot to do any action; since the actual VM's in the VC has the different UUID. We have exported the unmanaged vm list from Bulk export and imported.

  Now we have two vm with same name ( Not exactly .. like _old and the actual) , after importing we are able to manage the actual Vm running in the vc. as we have duplicate entries creating confusion.

   Is there any option to export list which come  Items > Machines tab ?? If we have the list we can force unregister the VM from cloud client. as the count is huge we cannot make a note manually.

Thank You !!

Storage capacity requirement issues when component profiles are used in vra 7.4

$
0
0

I am seeing a number of issues with component profiles in my environment:

1. The C drive for the machine does not show up in the request form storage tab when image and or size component profiles are added to a blueprint. This causes the Storage field to show 0GB in the request form and the Total capacity on the storage tab shows 0GB.

2. The user can add a disk from the storage tab equal to the max storage allowed, but, because the C drives allocated space is not reflected in the total capacity, the allowed storage capacity calculation is inaccurate and the request is allowed to go through. This results in a failed deployment with an error about being over capacity.

3. If both image and size component profiles are added to a blueprint, the allowed storage calculations are even worse. The Max storage amount is not even listed, and any size of disk can be added to the deployment and the request is still successful. This also results in a failed deployment with an error about capacity requirements. This is a picture from a blueprint with a max 350GB storage allocation:

I also noticed I can select Storage Reservation Policies even though I have the option unchecked in the blueprint:

4. Another minor annoyance is the storage tab on the request page has a truncated value for the "Total Capacity" at the bottom of the storage table. Users cannot see the Max Storage value unless the "Capacity" column is expanded extra wide. This should be in a separate area outside of the main table.

Is anyone else seeing this? Is this a known bug with component profiles? How can we can get the C Drive attached to the template to show up in the storage tab to accurately reflect the storage constraints on the blueprint? Not having it there might be confusing to the end user and additional disks added show up with ID 0, which is incorrect.

Regards,

Darren

vRO 7.4 is not logging workflow runs and complaining of Lucene60

Just updated my home lab vra/vro from 7.3.1 to 7.4.0 .  Installation seemed to go flawlessly, except vro.
