Blueprints not appearing after migrating from 6.2.3 to 7.3

Not sure if anybody has experienced this before or not but I'm having issues finding anything when searching. We recently performed a migration from our 6.2.3 environment to our shiny new 7.3 environment and afterwards I noticed that some of my blueprints were behaving differently.

 

Off the bat, they do not have the "cover page" or whatever it is called where the description, reason for request, and number of VMs appears on the first page and then you click in to the machine to answer the custom form questions and compute questions.

 

Secondly, when I navigate to Design > Blueprints, those blueprints do not appear. So I navigated to Administration > Catalog Management > Catalog Items and for source they show up as "Infrastructure Services".

 

Does anyone know what this means and how I can find/edit these blueprints again? Is it simply a permissions issue?

vSphere Initial Setup failed

Hello,

 

I installed the vRealize Automation 7.3 Appliance in simple Mode.

After that I would like to start the vSphere Initial Setup. After few seconds I get the following Error.

Someone has a solution for this?

vRealize Log Insight Microsoft - Exchange File Log

Hey There I have a problem with my Log Insight Server.

 

I downloaded the newest version of the Exchange content package from my appliance (which is up to date).

I installed everything successfully.

 

The Problem is:

 

I can't see any content on the Microsoft Exchange Message Tracking Dashboard (See below)

The config of the Agent looks fine(See below)

 

What could be the problem ?

 

I have no idea any more.

Importing existing Horizon View virtual desktops into vRealize Automation

Has anyone managed to import existing horizon view desktops into vRealize automation before?

 

I can import the virtual machine machine but its missing the Horizon View integration. No issues with a new build, the integration works fine. I have several hundred persistent desktops I would like to bring under management. If I don't have the integration in place the decommission phase will not remove the desktop from Horizon View.  I'm thinking I might need to create a custom workflow and use ebs for existing desktop decommissions.

 

I have a case open with vmware, just wondering if anyone else has encountered this before.

7.3 XAAS and multiple VMs

To start with we're using XAAS for everything.  In 6.2 I would allow users to give me a cluster name and how many nodes they wanted.  A workflow would then iterate through and prefix them app1-clustername, app2-clustername, etc and then request them as individual VMs with a unique hostname attribute to each one.  In 7.3 the addition of the deployment container kind of kills my approach as a cluster using my old method would have multiple deployments. 

 

Is there any way when creating multiple VMs to reference which VMs is being deployed during an event subscription?  I was thinking if I could determine this is VM 1 of 6 in the deployment I could prefix the the names accordingly.  Is there any passed attributes that I could use in an event subscription to determine which VM in the deployment is running?  If not any ideas as to how I could adjust names accordingly (app1 - appx)?  I don't think there's any way to pass a unique attribute per VM when calling them via JSON.

vRealize appliance connectivity issue with my server Iaas

Hello everyone,

I'm a junior cloud architect and I'm deploying vRealize Automation for a Proof of Concept. I already deploy the appliance on my vCenter but during the configuration with the wizzard from Prerequisite checker step, it shows: .

And when i click run button for check the prerequisites in the Iaas server, it never show the list of prerequisites for the Iaas server.

It stucks on "Waiting for host to trigger prerequisite check".

If i can't know if my Iaas server meet all the requirements, i can't take the risk to pursue the installation, it will fail.

Create XaaS component dynamically

Hi,

 

Is it possible to create XaaS component dynamically, in the sense through REST API?https://169.47.219.110/advanced-designer-service/api/tenants/ctspdev/blueprints/

Advanced-designer-service has the option to create XaaS component, but the format of the input is JSON, want to know how to collect values of this json object and format of this json object? Idea is like, after creating the workflow in VRO, the XaaS component will get created automatically using REST API calls and without any manual effort in VRA.

 

Can you please help on this ?

vRA 7.2 mount ISO

Hi,

 

How can i enable that users are able to mount ISO trough vRA or trough VMRC.

vRO is all configured properly, I am able to trigger mount ISO trough workflow (I need to power VM down in order to make this change) , I enter VM name, path to iso file and it works fine.

I want this to be enabled in vRA portal so users can mount ISO with additional applications (such as SQL...).

Actions on Machines vs Deployments

As a user of vRA6 the addition of Deployments is taking some getting used to.  Just wanted to post my results running actions on machines and how that affects their deployment.  Things seem to change when there's more than one VM in a deployment as well.  I'm curious if this is the norm. 

 

Single VM in deployment

  • Running the "Change Lease" action on a machine also changes the lease on the deployment

 

  • Running the "Expire" action on a machine also expires the deployment

 

  • Running the "Destroy" action on a machine appears to destroy the VM and the deployment but leaves the software components in an orphaned state in their own "software components" section.  Haven't figured out a way to remove these yet... there's no actions available to run on them. 

 

 

Multiple VMs in deployment

  • Actions like the ones above are not available to run

Hi All,

Maybe a dummy question, but I could not find solution for that.

My use case:

I have subset of machines which I would like to control within given business group, not all but just subset. Those machines are owned by different users.

On top of that I have create scripts to execute different actions, but I want to make sure that actions will be just executed on machines which are predefined (above mentioned subset).

Question is: how can delegate access to just selected machines to account which I will use to access RestAPI and to execute actions.

I don't wantto make that user a group administrator - just to have access to selected resources.

 

We are running on vRealize 7.0.1

Get datacenter or resource pool by using vRO script

I'm currently building a service blueprint but don't want the user to have to enter resource pool or folder information.

 

How do I retrieve objects such as a datacenter or resource pool using the vRO scripting language?

 

I'm currently trying to use var myDatacenters = VcPlugin.getAllDatacenters(); to retrieve a list of datacenters to search through but I am returning zero results.

 

Are there any tricks to doing this?  Do I need to connect to vCenter first?  Is vCenter perhaps not communicating with vRO?

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

vRealize Log Insight and Content packs or Splunk?

We have a four node cluster running vSphere 6.0 U3a.

 

We are setting up a test and dev system for developing a datacenter.

The datacenter will need to log traffic and alerts from different sources (taps, Bro, etc).

 

The question came up that Splunk can be used to ingest the logs and data and then use the Splunk dashboards to display anomalies and alerts. 

I hear Splunk can be expensive and somewhat difficult to develop dashboards.

 

vRealize Log Insight is a tool that can be used to alert a user to what is going on in a vSphere environment (ram spikes, disk usage, etc).

 

But, can vRealize Log Insight be used to ingest in different types of data as in what I describe above?

 

Anyone doing anything similar, that is ingesting logs and data from other sources and using vRealize Log Insight to display anomalies and alerts, etc.

vRA 7.2 - Add additional resources

I am very new to vRA, it has only been installed for a couple of months.   I started to import some unmanaged VMs and made a mistake.   The blueprint for the Bulk Imported machines has 1-2 CPU,, 4-8GB of RAM and 500GB of storage. 

 

We have changed the blueprint to have 2-6 CPUs and tried to re-import the machine but when I look under reconfigure is only has a maximum of 2 CPUs to select.  I also tried to create a new blueprint with the correct resources and did a import but the issue remains

 

Is there a way I can fix this?

Icons under Items - Machines

So in vRA6 I'm pretty sure the icons under the machines tab matched the icons you selected in the catalog.  In vRA7 I noticed that my deployments show the correct icon (Windows vs Linux), but under Machines I see that generic green and yellow icon.  Is that just me or is everyone seeing the same?  Anyone know of a way to change that so the machines show the appropriate icon?

Issue with external connector

I am having an issue with my external connectors.  I currently have two internal connector (one per cafe node) and two external connectors pointing to a separate domain than the internal ones. With the external connectors it appears that authentication is working by Sync is not working.  I have found the Connector table in saas database and was thinking about removing the sync node and wanted to reach out to you all to see if anyone has any comment on that approach.  First question I have with that is would the remaining node automatically take over the sync role once the current sync node is removed.  I would really like to replace both those connectors with a fresh deploy but need to use the same name and certificates.

I am going to integrate my vRA with Azure, Is it possible I can use event subscription for VM naming convention while deploy VM in Azure. How can we achieve this.? If you have any document or workflow, please share it.
